ISCO Championship at Hurstbourne Country Club – Tournament History: From Farm Roots to PGA Tour Prestige
The ISCO Championship, formerly the Barbasol Championship, debuted in 2015 as an alternate PGA Tour event held opposite the Scottish Open, later transitioning to a co-sanctioned event with the DP World Tour in 2022. Originally played at Robert Trent Jones’ Grand National course in Alabama, it moved to Kentucky in 2018—first at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, then relocating in 2025 to Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville.

ISCO Championship at Hurstbourne Country Club: Alabama Beginnings and Kentucky Arrival
From its inception in 2015 through 2017, the tournament took place on Alabama’s Grand National—marking the first PGA Tour event in the state since 1990. In 2018, organizers shifted the event to Nicholasville, Kentucky, hosting the event at Keene Trace Golf Club and reintroducing PGA Tour competition to the state for the first time since 1959.
Co‑Sanctioning Elevates the Field
In 2022, the event was rebranded as the ISCO Championship and became co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour. This change increased its global appeal and eligibility—it now offers a path to the Open Championship for leading non-exempt players. Its place in the July schedule makes it a strategic choice for golfers aiming to qualify for majors.
Champions and Records
Since its start, the tournament has crowned notable winners including Scott Piercy, Jim Herman, and Troy Merritt under the Barbasol name. More recently, Trey Mullinax (2022) and Vincent Norrman (2023) took the title. The 2024 ISCO Championship saw Harry Hall capture his first PGA Tour win in dramatic fashion via playoff at Keene Trace. The tournament has produced record-setting performances such as Jim Herman’s 262 (−26) in 2019 and the lowest 36-hole cut ever at −8 in 2024.
From Alternate Event to Competitive Platform
Traditionally an alternate field, the ISCO Championship does not grant Masters invitations; however, winners earn two-year PGA Tour exemptions and an invitation to the PGA Championship. Co-sanctioning has further strengthened the field, drawing 50+ DP World Tour players, and offering Official World Golf Ranking points and Open Championship entry benefits.
New Venue for 2025 – PGA Tour Returns to Louisville
In 2025, the ISCO Championship will move to Louisville’s Hurstbourne Country Club, a 243-acre Chick Adams-designed course. Set for July 10–13, it promises premium Bluegrass hospitality alongside tournament play.
Why the ISCO Championship Matters
Over the past decade, the ISCO Championship has grown from a niche alternate event into a competitive and strategic fixture for players just missing out on elite fields. Historic golfers like Jim Herman have used it to jumpstart careers, while the recent playoff win by Harry Hall highlights its growing intensity. It continues to offer drama, opportunity, and strong playing conditions that prepare contenders for major success.
