Procore Championship Tournament History | From 2007 Fry’s Electronics to Napa Valley’s Fall Feature

Procore Championship

Procore Championship Tournament History: The Procore Championship is a signature PGA Tour event in Napa Valley, marking the start of the FedExCup Fall season each September. It debuted in 2007 as the Fry’s Electronics Open at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, and was quickly embraced as part of the Tour’s seasonal expansion back then. Over the years, its name and venues have evolved, reflecting the tournament’s growth and rising stature.

Procore Championship Tournament History: From Fry’s Electronics to Procore

The tournament began as the Fry’s Electronics Open and was later called the Frys.com Open through 2015, before becoming the Safeway Open from 2016 to 2020. In 2021, cybersecurity firm Fortinet took over, renaming it the Fortinet Championship. In July 2024, construction-software leader Procore became the title sponsor, ushering in the new Procore Championship branding. Each name change brought fresh charm while maintaining the tournament’s competitive edge.

A Shift to Napa Valley: Silverado North Course

After its Arizona debut, the event moved to CordeValle Golf Club in California (2010–2013), then settled at the Silverado Resort’s North Course in Napa Valley in 2014, becoming a wine country staple. Designed by Johnny Miller and the Jones family, the course is set among oak-lined fairways and vineyard vistas, with deep bunkers and strategic routing that reward precision and skill.

Champions Who Defined the Event

Highlight victories include Mike Weir winning the inaugural event in 2007, and Troy Matteson’s record-setting 61–61 performance in 2009. Brendan Steele (2016–17) and Max Homa (2021–22) each claimed back-to-back wins. Recent champions such as Sahith Theegala (2023) and Patton Kizzire (2024) have kept the tournament trending, both achieving dominant performances on the redesigned course.

A Primer for the FedExCup Fall Series

As the first event of the FedExCup Fall, the Procore Championship awards 500 FedExCup points and a two-year Tour exemption along with access to signature events—making it essential for players securing their status. The fall golf circuit often redefines careers, with Procore’s start offering both redemption and opportunity.

A Napa Valley Celebration of Golf and Culture

Beyond competition, the event embraces Napa’s wine and culinary scene. Fans enjoy wine-tasting stations and local cuisine at the Visit Napa Valley Fan Village. Tournament proceeds benefit local charities through the Impact Through Golf Foundation, deepening community engagement.
